Our Clients’ beautiful rural location benefits from big skies, native hedging, and lots of wildlife. The Clients wanted to keep as many plants and as much material as possible, so we developed a scheme that gave dedicated spaces to wildlife, a child/pet safe pond, veggie growing plot, and more formal areas for relaxation, entertainment, and play.

New beginnings!
The long aspect ratio of this garden made zoning essential – the garden becomes wilder as we move further from the house.
The wild flower grass seed is yet to get going in these pictures, I look forward to updating these next summer!

Veg garden
UC4 sleepers provide generous beds, post and rail with stock fencing matches existing boundaries to keep children and dogs out of this area.
The wild pond is in this area – we reused slate, granite, and ragstones recovered in the clearance phase
Damp-tolerant planting used at this end of the garden, where the ground becomes wetter in winter
Entertaining space
New patio added, screened from the home with colour-matched timbre growing framework. Tall grasses and climbers will provide privacy on this terrace.
Tonally warm porcelain pavers tie the brickwork to the bound gravel paths
Blooming marvelous
Borders are generous but kept close to the patio for impact. A naturalistic and feminine palette of low maintenance grasses and perennials was developed to complement the plants retained by the Clients.
A long Spring border was included to make a feature of the existing Acers and birch trees; full of relaxed drift planting this jewel box of early-flowering treats will encourage owners out into the garden
